Guided photo tours and photography workshops in Metro Vancouver.
Welcome to my website – my name is Hagen Pflueger. I’m a wildlife-, landscape- and nature photographer located about 25 kilometers east of Vancouver in Port Coquitlam. In 2007 I moved from Engensen in lower saxony, northern Germany to Metro Vancouver in Canada and I got instantly fascinated by the incredible landscapes and the abundance of wildlife living close to my home.
Nature- and wildlife photography helped me to overcome a dire loss.
After my wife’s passing in 2017 I needed to find a hobby to distract myself from grieving. I was always taking photos, but just with simple point-and-shoot cameras. As kind of a ‘self-prescribed’ grief theraphy I decided to buy my first ‘real’ DSLR camera a few months later.
Not really knowing what to do with it and what all the buttons are for, I started watching many hours of YouTube videos about photography. I went out in nature and shot countless (terrible!) photos. But that helped me to get a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of photography. I guess that makes me a so called ‘self-taught photographer’. My main passions are nature-, landscape-, wildlife-, and night-photography. I do not shoot weddings or portraits! My goal is always trying to create compelling nature photography’s showing incredible details and the highest possible image quality.
I am constantly roaming Metro Vancouver and southern BC.
When I’m on tour, either hiking, bicycling or on a road trip, I’m looking for wildlife and the ever changing landscapes to freeze time by taking photos in all seasons, any time of the day or night, and in all weather conditions. So far I haven’t developed a signature style but instead I stay curious and always open to learning, experimenting, and exploring the infinite possibilities that photography is offering to my creative mind.
Guided wildlife hikes and exciting photo tours with my 4×4 pickup truck.
I like hiking the local trails and dikes to enjoy the great outdoors and taking photos of the incredible landscapes and wildlife along the way. It didn’t take long that word of mouth (and a bit of social media chatter) made me an “insider-tip” amongst Vancouver tourists and my hobby turned into a business. During the season (April to October) I’m offering my popular guided “Wildife Hike”. A two to three hour long nature hike on a flat trail with many photo opportunities of landscapes and wildlife.
Many of my hiking guests asked me for tips and locations they could explore. That lead me to offering road trips and off-road trips with my 4×4 pickup truck as an additional service. I take guests out into the nearby Fraser Valley or Squamish area and explore backroads, waterfalls and scenic photo spots which are usually “off the beaten path”. Did you know you are not allowed on any backroad with a rental car? My off-road tours do include some backroad adventure to visit places known and visited only by locals. During all my trips and hikes, I always take photos of my guests and make them available afterwards in an online album for them free to use. A very well received and liked bonus feature as many guests told me in their reviews. You can find my current guided photo tours clicking this link:

Photo workshops to teach photography on a personal level.
Many photographers prefer a personal touch to learn and enjoy their hobby or to expand their skills. YouTube videos are not everyones favorite. I’m offering fully customizable one-on-one photo workshops and small group photo workshops. We can sit together and go over some theory but can also go out and get some hands-on training in my backyard or a location of your choice during my workshops. I’m looking forward to welcome you to one of my future personal and fully customizable photo workshop. Please get more details and book your workshop clicking this link:

My photo equipment. I’m a CANON shooter.
By now I own a rather large collection of Canon cameras and lenses (20+). I’m using different cameras depending on the subject:
- For landscape and fine art photography, I mostly use my 50.6 Megapixel Canon 5DS-R DSLR camera.
- For wildlife I still use sometimes my trusted APSC camera the Canon 80D
- In 2023 I added the mirrorless full-frame camera Canon R6 MarkII to my collection. Mostly for shooting for night-, sports-, and wildlifephotography.
- When it comes to lenses, I am using a very broad variety of Canon L-lenses as well as Sigma ART lenses. Mostly prime lenses, but a few zoom lenses as well.
I’m looking forward to answering any questions you might have. Just send me an E-Mail.
My guided tours will help you to Discover Nature and my photo workshops will help you Master Photography to become a better photographer!
